I can’t remember now how I first came across this little program but the more I use it the more possibilities I see.

MojoPac essentially makes any USB2.0 storage device into a portable PC. Devices include USB flash drives (such as the one I carry on my keyring), USB hard drives and other devices such as iPods and some mobile phones.

Once MojoPac is downloaded and installed on your device it acts as an ‘overlay’ on any host PC running Windows XP. XP does not need to be installed on the device, but any programs you wish to use on your MojoPac do. These programs then travel with you on your device and are available to you on any host machine that you use your MojoPac with.

MojoPac are expecting their product to be popular with students (who may want to use their Mojo on campus and at home), gamers (yes, it is fast enough to run games), and travellers (like me) who don’t want to carry the bulk of a laptop around with them. This isn’t totally practical for me yet as most Internet cafes do not allow administrator access to their computers (MojoPac requires this, but it is hoped that in future versions that this restrictive requirement will be lifted).

I see many more uses for MojoPac - what happens on MojoPac stays on MojoPac, so in a household where a PC is shared and family members desire privacy, for instance, this can be achieved using a MojoPac.

Has anyone ever had their girlfriend use their PC and totally screw it up? My girlfriend is the nosey type who cant resist opening email attachments from people she doesn’t know. Keeping work on a MojoPac means that it will be safe from any virus that arrives on my main machine (providing the machine is cleaned before using MojoPac again).

If you are the kinda guy who abuses social networks (not that I am saying there is anything wrong with that) then keeping all those accounts on a MojoPac flash drive saves you from having unnecessary accounts on your main machine, or from buying another PC. Having many accounts on a flash drive means you can log in to them one by one, do a bit of digging, manage your myspace account etc. etc. and keep all the cookies in place.*** UPDATE: MojoPac does not currently support multiple user accounts {cough} sorry ’bout that ***

If you are a fan of P2P downloads, or want to try out new software that you suspect may have trojans or other nasties, why not install onto a MojoPac to try rather than on your main PC?

MojoPac currently costs US$29.95 per license, with additional licenses available at $14.95 each. This introductory pricing is available until December 8th. I bought four licenses, so I guess you could call that endorsement!
