I have recently signed up with a new paid membership forum dedicated to PPC and SEM (or affiliate marketing as some people call it). The two guys who own the forum initially made an offer to teach the basics of PPC to anyone for $250, and the offer was a little special as they promised that following their instructions you would be running a profitable PPC campaign from scratch within 2 weeks or you would be refunded your $250.
This caught my eye when I first saw it but, as you know if you have worked in this industry for any amount of time, there are a million shysters and scammers out there making any number of false promises. Anyway, next thing I know there are a bunch of people saying ‘wow, this really works’ and the guys decided to open a forum for anyone wanting to learn to set up a profitable campaign quickly and easily.
The business model used is fairly simple; you grab yourself free accounts with YSM (Yahoo Search Marketing) and AzoogleAds, and a $1.21 .info domain from GoDaddy. You use one of the ‘landing page’ templates (supplied as part of your forum membership) which tie up with a relevant AzoogleAds offer, stick it up on your shiney new .info domain and drive traffic to it from YSM.
I have never done any pay-per-action work before, the extent of my experience with PPC is to build traffic for existing sites, so I figured what the heck and threw my $50 in and subscribed ~ a learning experience if nothing else (plus I get bored of doing the same old stuff all the time)
So anyway, I followed what the guys told me and guess what? I’m making money as promised. It isn’t a fortune, but I’m still using basic techniques and haven’t progressed to the more advanced stuff that they are now teaching.
The basic techniques involve generating massive KW lists and just dumping them in your account with a few ads (it really is that simple to make money), then pruning back your keyword lists to remove KW with a high impression rate but no clicks, removing KW that get clicks but don’t convert, and tuning your landing page and ads to give a higher quality score which leads to lower click costs and higher rankings on the results page.
Intermediate techniques include grouping keywords and ads, and using KW replacement functions within the YSM account. I have no idea what the advanced techniques are yet, but I’m looking forward to having a crack at them.
The forum doesn’t just cover YSM and AzoogleAds, it covers all PPC engines (AdWords etc.) and other affiliate companies that some of you might be more familiar with or prefer to use (such as CJ) - but YSM and AzoogleAds are recommended for beginners, especially as YSM isn’t as fierce as AdWords! There are reasons why many of the members prefer to use AzoogleAds over other affiliate networks, but I won’t go into them here.
So what exactly do you get for your $50/month?
The reason I am posting this now though is because one of the mods has struck on an idea… and it would be an ideal time for anyone (YOU! reader, YOU!) to join this exciting forum. Here is the post made earlier today:
I was thinking that it might be cool if a bunch of us started one affiliate campaign at the same time. And we report on stats, what we did (tuning, discoveries, etc) and general progress, daily.
