Amazon Product Feed plugin for Wordpress

I use Amazon’s web services on many of my Wordpress websites. Originally I was using MrRat’s excellent Amazon Product Feed (APF), a Perl/CGI script, and hand-coding the templates to match the Wordpress theme for each website.

I needed a neater and more time-effective solution, so after having a look at the various available scripts I decided that a hacked up version of freekrai’s ASM2 would better suit my needs, especially as it is written in php.

The modified script isn’t a true plugin, it simply pulls in the active Wordpress theme. This can lead to occasional problems if the theme hasn’t been coded correctly.

Installing the script is simple. Upload the files to your server and set a couple of values in the config file and that’s it!

Some small bug fixes to the original freekrai script have also been implemented.

Wordpress sites running the Amazon plugin include:

Astral Health, (view store)

BlogMeDo, a Beatles fansite

Soul Trekker, a Star Trek fansite (view store)

.eu day has been and gone

.eu day came and went last Friday. I think a lot of people were dissapointed – especially with the attitude of some of the registrars (godaddy for example) – and with the big boys and their benelux trademarks.

Myself, I caught a few crappy domains and a big bill (60euro each from pool, but only 11euro for the few I got at internet.bs

The few better ones that I caught with pool are now at auction – I guess I will have to sit & think on a value for them.

Would you tarnish your reputation for $5?

Well would you?

Australia notes – investment, PCC and medicals

Whilst we were on our research trip to Egypt we were contacted by our immigration case officer (Monday 20th March to be exact). We have 70 days to provide:

    Police Clearance Certificates (PCC)
    Medical Examination
    X-ray
    Capital Investment in Australia

The 70 days expires 29 May. This may sound like a lot of time, but we lost one week by being away (I was determined not to check my mail for a whole week!) – and there are other problems too. I wasn’t expecting to have to provide the capital investment for several months and was even considering re-mortgaging to take the pressure off financially, but we don’t have time for this now! Some of the investments I am having to call in are in notice accounts – and still registered at my old address. None of the investments can be operated online, so this means writing (yeah, letters, stamps etc.) to the banks and building societies, which can take a week to get a response. Already we are down to 55 days!

Medical exam and x-ray’s are booked for the 20th & 21st of this month, so hopefully everything will go OK with them & we can get them sent off in time.

Police clearance forms were posted today, but they can take up to 40 days to be returned.

Oh, and the immigration want certified copies of documents, not originals, so it is yet another appointment with the solicitor!

I will be really glad when this lot is done!
